Fair Squared Coconut Body Scrub & Almond Hand Cream Review

Today happens to be Black Friday, a tradition mostly associated with America and Thanksgiving that has become more prominent in the UK over the last few years. Whilst in the UK shops don't (yet) have such dramatic reductions that it causes hysteria, it is often used as a good day to tick some holiday gift shopping off the list. Whilst I (like anybody) am always keen to save money where I can, when it comes to Christmas shopping I tend to try and support smaller, independent brands or companies who are ethical. I love to find companies who share the same values I do and for this reason I wanted to share a little about Fair Squared, a brand that has only been on my radar for a couple of months.

Fair Squared have many seals they have permission to label their product with: they are FairTrade approved, as well as being sealed by Natrue (a natural cosmetic organisation which amongst other things endorses natural and organic ingredients, eco-friendly practices, no synthetic fragrances or colours) and the Vegan Society. They are PeTA approved cruelty free and Halal certified. The products are made from natural hand-picked ingredients and crafted using traditional methods, paying a fair price for the ingredients and using this to improve living and working conditions of plantation workers and their families in some of the poorest regions of the world. Fair Squared market themselves to have high quality products and a sustainable production process, rejecting animal testing and child labour. To know the entire range is vegan, fair trade and cruelty free is already a huge bonus for me, but how do the products perform in action?

The Fair Squared Coconut Body Scrub contains desiccated coconut from Thailand and olive oil from Palestine, and is free from parabens, phthalates, sulphates and PEGs. It has a liquid jelly consistency with fine coconut flakes which buff away dry skin, while olive oil hydrates the skin. I can say for sure that my skin feels incredibly soft after using this product: it's incredibly moisturising! The flakes are very fine and the formula slips over the skin easily so this would be great for sensitive skin or for those who exfoliate regularly and are looking for a gentler polish. (My personal preference usually veers towards a more abrasive scrub but admittedly this is because a harsher scrub delivers more obvious results after inconsistent use - I am awfully impatient when it comes to body care and am always resolving to dedicate more time to it!) However I have been motivated to use this more than any other body scrub this entire year, and am always pleased with the results when I have taken the time to use it.

I also got a chance to try out the Fair Squared Almond Hand Cream for sensitive skin. This hand cream is, like the scrub, free of parabens, phthalates, sulphates and PEGs. It contains olive oil from Palestine and almond oil from Pakistan amongst other ingredients and is incredibly nourishing, providing long lasting moisture and protecting against dehydration. I use this last thing at night as the thing I love most about this is how quickly it absorbs into the hands: it soaks in instantly without feeling greasy on the skin and allows for a second application when necessary. As someone who suffers from incredibly dry hands at the best of times let alone this time of year it has been a life saver and I will absolutely repurchase this.

These items are both particularly amazing this time of year when the cold weather makes skin feel dry, but as I've enjoyed these items so much I will definitely be trying more from the Fair Squared range, and possibly some Christmas gifts too. A side note, which I found really interesting, is that Fair Squared also sell vegan condoms and lubricant: an amazing thing as the idea of chemicals  and pesticides down there is not appealing! Most of all it is nice to support a company with such fantastic products and ethics that prioritises worker and animal rights as well as the planet. Have you ever tried anything from Fair Squared?
